On Tuesday, May 23, 2017, I successfully defended my dissertation, “The Invention of Chinese Buddhist Poetry: Poet-Monks in Late Medieval China (c. 760-960 CE).” In the spirit of scholarly openness, I have made the dissertation available for download on this website. Please find it at this page.
This also marks an opportune time to announce that I shall assume a new position this fall, as assistant professor of premodern Chinese literature and cultural studies at the University of California, Santa Barbara. I’m very excited at this opportunity and look forward to working with my talented and accomplished new colleagues.
Thus, the graduate student phase of my career comes to an end after eight years. I would also like to express my gratitude to all the teachers, mentors, classmates, and friends who have supported me throughout. Many of them, but certainly nowhere near all, are pictured above. My sincerest thanks.
